Last Year's Model, S9E8

S9E8, "Last Year's Model," rounds out the season with another intriguing episode full of well-acted, well-written characters. It's presented in a unique format, with flashbacks, dreams, and echoing voices. There are a couple of cringe scenes of moaning kisses and lovers in a hot tub, so yeah. And I didn't quite understand why the rich guy was even married to the accused murderer, they didn't seem compatible. The murder is tame by usual Midsomer standards, and it shows Barnaby in the unfamiliar role of mistaken cop, but a wrong that he makes right by the end. Speaking of the end, I had figured out the whodunit before its reveal, which made it more interesting, anticipating the details. Joyce is seen in a different setting, and Cully and Tom enjoy some take out, leaving Joyce's casserole to the dogs! Most of the action takes place in a courtroom, the barristers (court lawyers) in their wigs, the judge in his bright red uniform, the camera shots in various angles--it's all a different take. Jones gets some good news here on the last episode of the season--he's come a long way since S9E1, The House in the Woods. The brightest spot of this episode was undoubtedly the character of Mrs. Beverley, played by the lovely Thelma Barlow. Definitely a top 10 ten contender, this episode is excellence throughout!
