King's Crystal, S10E3

S10E3, "King's Crystal," happens to be one of my favorites. Detective Barnaby smiles often in this one, which makes it a tad upbeat, (unlike the last 2 eps where there were no smiles or laughs). Jones gets a smile in there too. The mystery may seem obvious at first, but it will leave you guessing up until the very last scene! It opens in China and ends in the interrogation room of our favorite detectives. We get to learn a little bit of the world of Freemasonry here, quite interesting and eerie, especially as it gives us a glimpse into Jones' past. The characters are balanced,  1 or 2 who are rather likable (well, when you're not suspecting them as cold-blooded killers). A random note: we see the photographer character from E1's "Dance with the Dead" for a brief second--not really important, but a bit of useless trivia never hurt anyone). We see Cully and Joyce, with the former acting as Ophelia in "Hamlet," the poor thing again disappointed when her illustrious father ruins her big moment in his never ending pursuit of justice. There are no sleazy or crude bits, and the lack thereof adds to the classic Sherlock Holmes' style of straightforward intellectual mystery without any cheap fodder (ok, eagle-eye viewers might notice some crass photos on the wall in one scene, but it's incidental and let's just ignore that). And though there are not as many interior or exterior shots that will wow you, you'll remember this one for sure!
