The Axeman Cometh, S10E4

This episode is special for two reasons. First, it's here we meet our Cully's future husband, Simon. He literally bumps into her, and it's love at first sight. Secondly, we see Tom light up like an excited youngster, dust off his old vinyl records, and play air guitar when his favorite band comes into town for the Midsomer Music Festival. John Nettles apparently plays guitar (have you noticed his long nails?) so his joy in this episode is the real deal. Later in the episode we see him rock it out in a jam session. But that, I hate to say it, my friends, is as good as it gets. We've got a lot of unsavory characters (e.g. a hateful married couple, washed-up and wasted rockers, and some disgusting slaughtered animals--not really characters, but still). Then there's unpleasant elements such as the previously mentioned rockers vomiting on the street and being over-the-top rude not only to each other but also to our Detective Barnaby! It was hard to watch them unleash an angry-drunk tirade at Tom and call him a tosser (of all things) --- and that's immediately after Tom expressed his child-like admiration for the long-haired loser. But although the rockers are mostly loud and unpleasant, there are still a few funny moments they provide (see below). The main legend, Jack, "The Axeman," is acted very well by James Cosmo. The murders are not too bloody,  but the episode has a couple of icky bedroom scenes. And while Cully is stepping into the future, Tom gets a blast from the past. I'm still not sure who was in the white van and what exactly the butler did, but, ah well, Cully's in love and Tom get's a sincere apology from the Axeman...So though it's not a favorite, it has some worthy spots. Stroll and scroll to see it all including the extra bits, and find more on Instagram : @Omae.Zing
