S13E3, Blood on the Saddle

S13E3, "Blood on the Saddle." It's been awhile since we've had a festival to attend, but this one is a proper SNOOZE-FEST, especially if cowboys, Confederates, and cards aren't your cup of tea. No intrigue whatsoever, the saving graces were the funny bits of Jones once again getting dirty-- soaked in mud and chimney soot. And also the unique scene at the end (although it stretched out far too long) can make this episode memorable. We're met with the obvious point that Barnaby and Jones never have any weapon to defend themselves. And though the minutes tick by with endless gunshots and the slowest back-up team ever, we do get to see our heroes with their hands on a gun, though Jones' is shooting blanks and Barnaby's is a mere delusion. Oh, but let's not forget that Joyce demonstrates her excellent marksmanship, proving she could out-pistol-whip her husband with her eyes closed. John Nettles might have had a chuckle in the Wild West dress-up bit, but was sure to pack it up due to episodes like this. Still, several lovely exterior shots and beautiful horses say this one is not a total loss. Gruesome murders including being dragged to death and reference to a dog death warrant warning.
