S12E3, Secrets and Spies, is an excellent episode with a bit of everything: intrigue, history, espionage, humor, cricket, and even some sheep shit! It had my attention even though it took over half an hour before the 1st murder. Jones' has got some competition on the cricket field as well as the job now that Stephens has been promoted to Detective and offers her valuable insight into the investigative team. Barnaby resigns and Joyce isn't having it, and neither is anyone else, of course (he has this and next season before he can officially do that). Mythical beasts cause tension between George and Tom. We learn that Tom was once in the MI6; Joyce didn't even know! The talented Anna Massey, previously seen as Honoria in S1E2, Written in Blood, returns for this episode, this time as the big boss Brenda. Alice Krige's character was a point of irritation for me, but acted out well enough. Sexual scenes as well as a lot of gore, including on animals, so be prepared to close your eyes. You can skip those scenes, but don't miss this episode!
